Tour Overview
A Cultural and Historic Gateway to Crow Country
Crow Agency serves as the administrative center of the Crow Indian Reservation, the largest reservation in Montana. Home to the Crow Tribe, whose traditional name is Apsaalooke, meaning “children of the large-beaked bird,” this region carries deep cultural significance, powerful history, and a strong connection to land, language, and community.
Located near Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Crow Agency gives visitors access to one of the most significant historic sites in the American West. The battlefield includes a visitor center, museum, Custer National Cemetery, the 7th Cavalry Memorial, and the Reno-Benteen Battlefield. Each June, reenactments help bring the events of the Battle of the Little Bighorn into vivid focus.
Crow Agency is also known for its vibrant annual celebrations. During Crow Fair, the community becomes known as the “teepee capital of the world,” with traditional dances, drumming, rodeo competitions, parades, and colorful teepees filling the landscape. These gatherings offer visitors a meaningful opportunity to experience the hospitality, resilience, and living traditions of the Crow Nation.
Crow Fair
Held each summer, Crow Fair is one of the region’s most important cultural celebrations, featuring teepees, dancing, drumming, rodeo, parades, and community gathering.
Apsaalooke Heritage
The Crow people continue to preserve a rich cultural identity through language, ceremony, education, storytelling, and community traditions.
Little Bighorn Battlefield
This nationally significant site preserves the history of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, with memorials, a museum, cemetery, and interpretive areas.
Chief Plenty Coups Legacy
Chief Plenty Coups, the last Crow chief to gain status in the traditional manner, left his home and land as a park for all people to learn from and remember.
Culture, Language & Community
The Crow Reservation is home to a strong and enduring Apsaalooke culture. With many tribal members continuing to speak Crow as their first language, the community maintains deep ties to language, identity, and tradition. Little Big Horn College supports higher education while helping preserve and promote Crow cultural heritage for future generations.
little bighorn history
