Tour Overview

A Scenic Valley of Tribal Heritage, Wildlife, and Mountain Beauty

Mission Valley Scenic Byway winds through one of Northwest Montana’s most striking landscapes, where the Mission Mountains rise dramatically above open valley floors, lakes, wetlands, farms, and Tribal communities. Beginning near the southern tip of Flathead Lake, the route follows Highway 93 through the Flathead Indian Reservation, homeland of the Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d’Oreille peoples.

The valley offers a meaningful blend of natural beauty and cultural depth. Visitors can learn more about the region’s Indigenous heritage at The People’s Center in Pablo, explore historic landmarks like St. Ignatius Mission, and travel through communities that reflect the living culture and stewardship of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

Recreation is abundant throughout Mission Valley. Flathead Lake offers sailing, jet skiing, speed boating, and scenic cruises, while nearby wildlife refuges and The Bison Range provide opportunities to see bison, elk, antelope, mule deer, bighorn sheep, white-tailed deer, birds, and other native species. With mountain views in every direction, the valley invites visitors to slow down and experience Montana through water, wildlife, history, and place.
